We came here as a quick Labor Day weekend getaway. Neither of us had visited the nation's capital before. It was a great trip, except for the fact that I had an alarming experience at our hotel, which I thought might be haunted. I woke up at not quite dawn because I heard something next to my bed, but it was too early for the maids to be in. Further, I did not see anything where the sound originated, but it was definitely next to my bed, and it sounded loud enough that it could not have been caused by a rodent. I woke my friend, but the sound ceased. Anti-climatic, I know, since nothing more happened. But it gave me the heeby jeebies.

Pictured above, the Jefferson Memorial from outside. I have to say, the monuments are magnificent and majestic, and they do their job of humbling. You are, as they say, bowing in the presence of greatness. (I hope that did not remind anyone else of Kanye's Stronger).

The Jefferson Memorial, up close. Splendid. Inspiring. Regal.

The U.S. Capitol Building.

The Lincoln Memorial, from outside.

The most beloved President of this nation. Truly, his is a most powerful and tragic story. I am not worthy.

The Washington Monument lighting up the night sky.

Happily waiting for my food.

Hank's Oyster Bar by Capitol Hill. Moonstone Oyster, Judith Point Oyster, and Barnstable Oyster. Delicious.
